The Care Bois Collective is a duo of transmasculine media artists based in Treaty 4 and Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. Inspired by The Care Bears—-an animated 1980s TV series—-the Care Bois shine messages of love and support to trans communities through radical projection mapping and playful performance art.

Transient transforms a building into an endless array of speculative possibilities as a metaphor for how transness expands potential configurations of the body. A projection mapping installation, Transient eclipses and re-signifies the building’s surface, rendering the physical structure as seemingly malleable. While governments increasingly censor queer and trans art and symbolism in public spaces, the Care Bois, dressed in head-to-toe pink and blue Care Bear costumes, take “matter” into their own paws. Shining loving light from their bellies, the Care Bois playfully morph the material environment into a multitude of speculative worlds, inviting audiences to view matter and their everyday surroundings anew.
